Beach Travel Team Coach

Angela (Lobendahn) Peterson is a respected volleyball coach, former collegiate standout, and one of Utah’s premier beach volleyball athletes. With decades of experience as both a player and coach, she is passionate about developing athletes and inspiring the next generation to embrace the sport.
Peterson played collegiate volleyball at New Mexico State University, where she established herself as one of the program’s top performers. A two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection, she earned All-Conference honors during her junior and senior seasons and was the conference’s Preseason Player of the Year entering her senior campaign. She concluded her collegiate career ranked among New Mexico State’s all-time leaders in kills, including finishing sixth in career kills, while her junior season remains one of the best in school history with the second-highest single-season kill total.
Before her collegiate career, Peterson was a standout at Provo High School in Utah. As a senior, she was named the Most Valuable Player of her region after leading Provo to a third-place finish at the state tournament. She also earned team MVP honors during both her junior and senior seasons.
Peterson earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from New Mexico State University with a major in Business Management and a minor in Finance.
Her coaching career began in New Mexico as an assistant coach for the Diamondback 18’s club team before moving into the collegiate ranks at Utah Valley University (then Utah Valley State College). She served on Coach Atoa’s staff from 2002–2004, helping build the Wolverine volleyball program during its early years at the NCAA level.
Following her collegiate coaching experience, Peterson continued to invest in volleyball throughout Utah. She has served as the assistant coach at Pleasant Grove High School since 2015. In addition, she was a director and coach for Club Vinaka from 2016 to 2022, where she helped develop many of the state’s top youth volleyball players.
In addition to her indoor volleyball accomplishments, Peterson is recognized as one of Utah’s premier beach volleyball players. Winning the Motherlode tournament in 2013 and playing in several main draw AVP tournaments. She continues to compete while sharing her passion for the beach game.
Angela is married to Brandon Peterson, a former Utah Valley University assistant basketball coach. Together they have five children: Mialani (married to Carter Welling), Makai, Talei, Tiahni, and Teuila. She is the daughter of Frederick (Keli) and LaDonna Lobendahn.
